This Week’s Theme: Parallels of ESL & Special Education instruction We are so honored and excited to have a special guest with us tonight. He is the go to person when looking for ELL resources and in my opinion any resources, we are delighted to welcome ELL teacher, the author of several popular blogs and even a few books...Mr Larry Ferlazzo! Roll Call: Share how your district assesses students in special education for ESL/ELL services... Patrick Black: Have recently had 2 students to evaluated in multiple languages, both had significant cognitive delays, had to have outside evaluators come in and test them, in one we had a very difficult time understanding whether the lack of English instruction was a cause of his issues. Deb Truskey: We have a listing of bilingual psychs and SLPs that we have used to help assess students in L1 while we do the testing in English (if appropriate) for special ed services. Our ELL department uses testing of their own to qualify students for ELL. Our special guest - Larry Ferlazzo: Your host for tonight....Anne Truger: My district is entirely special education, our students take the access test to determine eligibility for our Transitional Program of Instruction. TPI teachers provide direct service to students with disabilities who are also English Language Learners.
